About

Our History

Checker Hall Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Checker Hall Seventh-day Adventist Church was officially organized on July 2, 1927, with 32 charter members, following an evangelistic series conducted by Samuel T. Jones in 1926. Interest in the Adventist message had first been sparked through literature shared by C. M. Greenidge. On January 22, 1928, the church dedicated its first building on its current site in Checker Hall, St. Lucy, made possible through the generosity of William Skinner, who donated the land, and Martin Haynes, who supplied much of the lumber.

Despite limited pastoral oversight in its early years, committed lay members faithfully led the church and helped it flourish. The original wooden building was later replaced with a stone structure in 1940, and electricity was introduced in 1962. Over the decades, Checker Hall has been blessed with dedicated pastors and elders, leaving a legacy of faithful leadership and a continued commitment to sharing the gospel and serving the community.

Stay tuned during 2026-2027 Anniversary Celebrations for monthly historical reflections.

Our Leaders

Pastor

The pastor is the spiritual shepherd of the congregation, called to preach and teach God’s Word, provide pastoral care, equip members for ministry, and lead the church in fulfilling its mission. Working alongside the local church leadership, the pastor nurtures the spiritual growth of the congregation, promotes unity, and provides guidance in accordance with Scripture.

Granville Hinds

District Pastor

Elders

Elder are spiritual leaders who work closely with the pastor to nurture the congregation and advance the mission of the church. Elders provide leadership in worship services, encourage members in their spiritual growth, offer pastoral care through visitation and prayer, and support the church’s evangelistic and discipleship efforts.
